Chobani Goodness

So yeah. This happened today…

Yup, my Canadian friends, we are in business!

The much talked about American yogurt Chobani is slowly starting to infiltrate Canada, starting in select stores in Toronto! I have been hearing about Chobani since I started reading health and fitness blogs about three years ago but, alas, greek yogurt in Canada was almost none! Thankfully, in the last year alone greek yogurt has exploded in Canada and we’re finally getting some quality competition to the paltry selection we used to have.

So what’s so great about Chobani? Well, here are some details about the product:

  • Made with only natural ingredients
  • Free of preservatives and artificial flavours
  • Free of synthetic growth hormones (Milk from cows not treated with rBST)
  • Includes 5 live & active cultures, including 3 probiotics
  • Packed with two times more protein than regular yogurt
  • Provides a good source of bone-building calcium
  • Free of Gluten
  • Certified Kosher
  • Safe for those with nut and soy allergies

So with all that wonderful goodness, I know you’re more curious about the taste! I promise to go through each flavour as I try them but, for now, I’ve only had the pomegranate!

Oh man. I can’t tell you how ridiculously excited I was to try this stuff. I’m such a freak for greek yogurt! The creamier the better so I had high hopes for this stuff!

Look at the creaminess! Right off the bat, it was super creamy and then I had a taste and my eyes almost rolled back into my head! Holy yummy! I’m not normally one for yogurt with fruit on the bottom as it’s usually too sweet but this wasn’t overly sweet at all! It just took that yogurt tang out and gave it a slight pomegranate flavour. I am in love! This has now shot up to one of my top three favourite greek yogurts!

If you’re in Toronto and you want to check Chobani out, check out their store locator to see if they sell in your area. I’m overjoyed to know they’re selling in two of my local grocery stores!

My Poor Pocketbook

I decided to put away my school work for the day and immediately tried to think of something to do that needs to be done. Then I realized I’ve actually done quite a bit today and now I’m blogging so that I can relax for the rest of the evening!

The day started off with a fabulous breakfast!

A strawberry brownie parfait! All I did was layer some strawberry yogurt, oats, sliced strawberries and thinly sliced leftover brownies (had a craving at about 10pm last night!).

This.was.amazing!

After this delicious parfait I headed out to The Carrot Common for some groceries. As usual, I only planned to buy specific items and came out with a LOT. Yay! for my tummy, boo! for my bank account!

Blurry, I know. I told Alan that our next house MUST have great natural lighting in the kitchen!

Here’s the low-down:

  • strawberries
  • kale
  • green onion
  • broccoli
  • parsley
  • coconut butter(!!!!)
  • lemons
  • tomatoes
  • cashews
  • nutritional yeast
  • ginger
  • Earth Balance

  • New chips to try
  • Braggs
  • cherries
  • tofu x3
  • macadamia cashew butter (!!!!!!!!!!)
  • Cool Mint Clif Bar
  • S’mores Luna Bar
  • Pecan, Banana and Coconut Lara Bars

This loot cost me $74!!!! Oye…

But look what else I found while there that I could NOT resist!

A purple pepper!!! I’ve never in my life heard of these and they had a whole whack load so I immediately snatched one up to try. Anyone else had one before? What did you use it for? It’s so pretty!

Anyway, while I was out I thought I’d pick up an equally expensive lunch at their juice bar. I brought it home and had it after I unpacked my groceries.

The 3/4 drank juice was the Sprout for Joy which contained: bananas, strawberries, oranges and sprouts. It was really tasty and the orange added quite a kick! You could taste the sprouts but after the first few sips you became accustomed to it.

The sandwich was the Grilled Tempeh and it contained: tempeh, tomatoes, cucumbers, greens and honey dijon on 7 grain bread. It was equally as tasty, the dijon was fantastic and although they packed in the tempeh it didn’t stuff me up like it usually does! I added leftover salad from last night for more greens!

Then I had to take out my first dehydrator experiment!

RAISINS!!! I figured it would be an easy and simple thing to try for my first go and it worked out beautifully! These are plump raisins! I think they’ll go really well in some hot oatmeal! I had to free the dehydrator up to put in some cherries and strawberries and now the house smells of strawberries! Yum!!! I’ve decided to dry a lot of fresh fruit for toppings in the wintertime (I don’t want to use them now as I want to take advantage of all the fresh fruit I can). I’m going to dehydrate a bunch and store them!

I then proceeded to work on both my final project and final paper until my brain was mush.

Now I must be off to prepare a late dinner for Alan and myself! I’m making Ginger “Chicken” from How It All Vegan! This is my second recipe from this book today! I also threw together the Green Goddess Dressing, can’t wait to try it!

Have a fantastic night my friends! Enjoy yourselves!
